Hydroscand participates in The Swedish Workplace HIV and AIDS Program in South Africa
During April Hydroscand held an onsite wellness day, giving employees access to health screening together with SWHAP. The tests and screening offered were HIV status, waist circumference, body mass index, blood sugar and blood pressure.
The managing director, JJ Fourie, led by example by being the first to participate in the health screening. This was the second Wellness Day held by Hydroscand in South Africa and they achieved over 90% HIV and wellness testing uptake by the staff. During the day industrial theatre was used to raise awareness on the importance of health and safety in the workplace. “The SWHAP Program is exclusively for Swedish-owned companies and forms part of our company Wellness Program, it is part of the way we demonstrate to our staff that we care about them and their families” said JJ.
The Swedish Workplace HIV and AIDS Program (SWHAP) is a joint initiative by the International Council of Swedish Industry (NIR) and the Swedish Industrial and Metalworkers’ Union (IF Metall). It is a long-term strategy to contribute to the establishment and/or support of HIV and Wellness program at over 370 workplaces in sub-Saharan Africa.
The program is cofunded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the companies that participate in the program.
